What the cards mean
Tarot cards are decorative descriptions of feelings which everyone will encounter throughout their lives such as persistence, hapiness, sadness, guilt, regret and love.
There are many types of cards available depending on religion and spiritual origins. The modern deck is the ‘Rider Waite’ deck which consists of 78 cards. The deck can be split into two categories – Major and Minor Arcana.
The Major Arcana (or trump cards) are made up of 22 cards which represent the four elements of the earth and the planet.
The remaining 56 cards are divided into four suits (swords, wands, pentacles and cups) of 14 cards each. These cards are an extension of the Major Arcana cards. The sword stands for air and the mind; the pentacles represent the earth; wands means fire and the cups depict water and emotion.
