Misconceptions

Like all topics which origins are shrouded in mystery and contradiction, general misconceptions and “old wives tales” are passed on through the generations and tarot is no exception.

Some believe the tarot is a religion. It’s true that history has documented links between various religious factions and the use of the cards, but that is only what the cards were – instruments used by religious folk to interpret meanings.
Another fallacy is that all tarot readers are psychic. Many readers do have paranormal senses and this helps with interpreting the cards, but reading tarot cards is all about finding a deep connection,
and meaning and feeling the energy from them. This can be learned, though like many who are masters of their trade, it can take years.

Tarot cards are seen by some as adangerous, evil activity that can ruin your life. Some images depicted on the cards do look fightening but without knowing what they mean its easy to see why people associate it with evil. The cards are safe to use if both the reader and and the person getting the reading are both of a sound mind. People who take readings word for word are not utilising the power of tarot properly.
